Other Ventures
As artist, entrepreneur, and conservationist, Roxanne Quimby has launched several other ventures in Maine, including the Quimby Family Foundation, Maine Woods Forever, Happy Green Bee, and most recently the Quimby Colony. More information on each of these initiatives is provided below:
Quimby Family Foundation
The mission of the Quimby Family Foundation is to advance wilderness values and to increase access to the arts throughout Maine. To accomplish this mission, the Foundation supports and encourages nonprofit organizations that (1) address critical environmental issues, such as the protection of wildlife, preservation of wildlands, and promotion of nonconsumptive, nonmotorized recreation; and (2) foster an active, vibrant, and successful arts community, including nonprofit galleries, exhibit space, art schools, and community outreach programs.
Quimby Colony
The Quimby Colony, in Portland, Maine, is an artist in residence program with a focus on textiles, fashion, and the culinary arts. Artists from any geographic location are invited to apply for a residency for periods ranging from 3 weeks to 3 months, depending on their personal flexibility and desires. Accepted artists are provided with studio space, room, board, and the opportunity to meet other artists, engage in creative discourse, develop collaborative approaches for future work, and contribute to the local art scene.
Maine Woods Forever
Maine Woods Forever is a heritage conservation organization dedicated to preserving the spirit and landscape of the Maine Woods. It seeks to find ways to perpetuate the Maine Woods that have been home, workplace, and inspiration to generations of people who love Maine and the Maine Woods.
Happy Green Bee
Happy Green Bee creates safe, organic children's clothing available for sale online and from its factory store in Portland, Maine. Its mission is to create cheerful clothes with sustainable earth-friendly manufacturing practices in an effort to meet and increase the demand for clothing that not only looks and feels great, but is contributing in positive ways to the welfare of our planet.
